At the beginning of the last panel discussion at the Hospitality & Tourism Summit 2024 in Varna (Хотелски форум), which focused on the role of technologies in the sector and the need for qualified employees, Maya Ivanova (Zangador Research Institute) briefly presented the results of a study conducted from May to September 2023 among people in the tourism industry in Bulgaria. The study is part of a large European project, PANTOUR Pact for Next Tourism Generation Skills - Pantour, whose main goal is to improve the link between education and tourism, and to lay the foundations for a qualitatively new concept for training employees in tourism, based on acquiring social, digital, and green skills. The results showed identified gaps in the level of proficiency from these three groups of skills, according to the respondents in Bulgaria, and appealed for special attention from both employers and educational institutions.
